OverviewThe Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will be responsible for providing premium primary medical care services to a wide variety of patients. The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will be expected to systematically assess patients’ health status, arrive at appropriate diagnosis(es), and implement care plan(s) or effective clinical outcomes while meeting or exceeding quality metrics. The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant works collaboratively with our physicians and patient centered care team to provide medical care and treatment in the most cost effective and appropriate way.
ResponsibilitiesThe Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will be responsible for providing premium primary medical care services to a wide variety of patients. The Nurse Practitioner will be expected to systematically assess patients’ health status, arrive at appropriate diagnosis(es), and implement care plan(s) or effective clinical outcomes while meeting or exceeding quality metrics. The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant works collaboratively with our physicians and patient centered care team to provide medical care and treatment in the most cost effective and appropriate way.
Obtains patient history and performs assessment via observation, interview, and examination. Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic procedures, when appropriate by following appropriate medical practice standards. Participates with the physician(s) in the evaluation and management of patient care, as a member of the patients' care team.
Performs procedures, suturing, wound care, and infection management, while thoroughly documenting such in the patient's medical record.
Thoroughly and concisely documents in the patient's medical record all patient contact encounters, progress notes, orders, prescriptions, test results, and patient instructions according to standard medical practice guidelines and to support appropriate billing practices, in a timely manner.
Educates and encourages patients to become active participants in their own healthcare-related behavior and provides patient education materials related to diagnosis, treatment plans, and need for follow-up care, for use in encouraging wellness
Provides support for vacation coverage by responding to patient calls, patient portal messages, prescription requests, and follow up to test results. Able to provide telephone call coverage, as requested.
Participates and contributes to quality reporting metrics, as indicated and appropriate.
Manages patient care through appropriate use of available resources, including available technology and technologic platforms including but not limited to the electronic medical records, patient portal, telephone system, interfaced testing results, or other systems/ methods.
QualificationsMinimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Master's degree in Nursing or Physician Assistant. One year of ARNP or PA experience required. Credentialing: Must meet requirements set forth by the Medical Staff Office to obtain and retain privileges to practice as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse within UF Health Shands Hospital and/or the Shands UF Healthcare Network, as applicable.
Motor Vehicle Operator Designation:
Employees in this position: Will not operate vehicles for an assigned business purpose NOTE: A frequent driver is defined as one who uses his/her personal or Shands automobile a) at least once daily, b) at least five individual trips per week or c) drives, on average, over 150 miles per week in the performance of his/her job.
Licensure/Certification/Registration:
Current and clear license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) in the State of Florida. BLS is required.
