      Job summary

      We are seeking to appoint a skilled and motivated Phlebotomist to join our established and supportive nursing team at Len Valley Practice. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a busy, patient-focused GP practice delivering a high-quality phlebotomy service to our practice population.

      The successful candidate will be responsible for providing safe, efficient and compassionate care, running phlebotomy clinics and working closely with the wider clinical and administrative teams across our Lenham and Harrietsham sites. The role requires a high level of organisation, good communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining excellent standards of patient care.

Training will be provided, including opportunities to support the practice flu vaccination programme.

      The post is part-time, working 8.15am2.15pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, with the possibility of additional hours to meet service needs. This role would suit an experienced and reliable Phlebotomist who is committed to delivering safe, high-quality care within primary care.

      Main duties of the job

      The post holder will provide a safe, efficient and patient-focused phlebotomy service to the practice population, delivering clinics across both the Lenham and Harrietsham sites. The role involves working independently to manage phlebotomy clinics while also working closely with the nursing, clinical and administrative teams to ensure a smooth and effective service.

      You will be responsible for taking blood samples from patients of different age groups, ensuring samples are correctly labelled, handled and dispatched in line with laboratory and infection control standards, and accurately recording all activity in the clinical system. A strong focus will be placed on patient care, consent, dignity and reassurance throughout each appointment.

      The role also involves supporting wider practice activity, including assisting with service improvements, participating in training and contributing to the delivery of seasonal vaccination programmes, including flu clinics. The successful candidate will be expected to communicate effectively with colleagues, escalate any concerns appropriately, and contribute to maintaining high standards of quality, safety and patient experience within the practice.

      Len Valley Practice is a friendly forward thinking GP surgery based in the historic village of Lenham Kent caring for just over ten thousand patients across Lenham and Harrietsham The practice is led by five GP partners supported by salaried GPs, GP registrars a strong nursing team, healthcare assistants, pharmacists, physiotherapy and paramedic practitioners as well as skilled administrative and dispensary staff.

      Main Purpose Of The Post To provide phlebotomy services to the practice population Supported by the nursing team within the practice the phlebotomist will be responsible for delivering a phlebotomy service within the boundaries of their role and in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols compliant with laboratory standards whilst adhering to infection control standards they will focus upon providing a safe phlebotomy service supporting patients taking routine blood tests from different age groups as requested by clinicians maintaining clinically accurate records and managing own phlebotomy clinics they will work collaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs of patients Training will be provided to become a part of our flu campaign delivering flu vaccinations to our practice population

      Duties And Responsibilities Of The Post

      Main Duties Ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible and gaining consent for the collection of a blood sample Collection of samples of blood in accordance with training and procedures Ensuring samples are stored in appropriate containers Accurate legible labelling of all samples to confirm patient identity Checking patient identification against gp or nurse request and confirming with patient whenever possible Recording collection of blood sample in patient record in accordance with practice procedure Ensuring that samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashion Ensuring that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff Notifying the gp or nurse of any significant patient issues Liaising with and assisting members of the administrative team Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care Support and participate in shared learning within the practice

      Confidentiality Ensure that all confidentiality data protection and information governance policies and guidelines are followed and strictly adhered to reporting any infringements to the appropriate person immediately
