      Job summary

      Working in partnership with Dr Sophie May & Dr Ridwan Daureeawoo, the Practice Manager will provide strategic leadership and operational management to ensure the practice delivers high-quality, safe and effective patient care within a financially sustainable and well-governed environment.

      Main duties of the job

      The role has overall responsibility for business development, finance, human resources, IT systems, premises, and patient services. The post holder will take a proactive, strategic approach to practice development, ensuring compliance with NHS contractual obligations, CQC requirements, and relevant legislation, while identifying opportunities for service growth and income generation.

      The Practice Manager will stay informed of NHS developments and ensure that changes in guidance, policy or legislation are effectively implemented and communicated across the practice.

      We are a small, friendly NHS GP practice in Chelsea with an innovative, enthusiastic and proactive GP team. We are seeking a motivated and experienced Practice Manager to lead, coordinate and support the practice team, working collaboratively with our GPs to ensure the smooth running, continued development and high standards of care across the practice.

      Key Responsibilities

      Strategic Management & Planning

      Contribute to the strategic direction and long-term development of the practice

      Monitor performance against KPIs, CQRS targets and contractual requirements

      Lead change management and service development initiatives

      Prepare and maintain governance documentation (CQC, information governance, clinical governance)

      Develop business cases and bids for new services and funding

      Financial Management

      Oversee all aspects of practice finances, including budgeting, forecasting and cash flow

      Maximise income from NHS and non-NHS sources

      Monitor expenditure and report variances with corrective actions

      Liaise with accountants and submit year-end accounts promptly

      Ensure robust systems for invoicing, cash handling and financial controls

      Human Resources

      Lead recruitment, retention, induction and ongoing staff development

      Maintain HR policies, employment contracts and job descriptions

      Ensure compliance with employment legislation and professional registration requirements

      Manage staffing levels, skill mix, performance issues, grievances and disputes

      Provide leadership, mentoring and support to administrative and reception teams

      Information & Communication Technology

      Oversee practice IT systems, hardware and software (including SystmOne)

      Ensure data security, system maintenance and appropriate procurement

      Maintain an up-to-date understanding of medical and clinical software

      Premises & Facilities

      Ensure the premises are safe, secure, clean and well maintained

      Manage maintenance, calibration and servicing of equipment

      Ensure appropriate insurance cover is in place

      Oversee fire safety, alarm and telephone systems

      Patient Services

      Ensure patient services meet NHS contractual and regulatory standards

      Oversee appointment systems, capacity planning and access to services

      Manage patient registration, list size and boundary compliance

      Maintain effective complaints management procedures

      Liaise with the Patient Participation Group

      Ensure patient information materials and the practice website are kept up to date

      • Proven experience in a management or senior administrative role
      • Experience of managing staff, including recruitment, performance management and staff development
      • Experience of financial management, budgeting and monitoring expenditure

      • Experience of working independently, prioritising workload and meeting deadlines

      Desirable

      • Experience working in an NHS GP practice or primary care setting
