      ABOUT THE JOB

      The ACLU seeks a full-time position of Project Manager in the Business Operations and Support Services Department of the ACLU’s National office in New York, NY.

      The Business Operations and Support Services department, in the office of the Chief Operating Officer, works to enable organizational and operational effectiveness by partnering with ACLU staff across the enterprise to develop core business operations, training programs, and support services needed to maximize resources, evaluate and mitigate risk, ensure accessibility and inclusion, and achieve the organization’s strategic goals.

      Reporting to the Director of Special Projects, the Project Manager will be responsible for organization-wide process improvement and system implementation projects, supporting projects for launching new programs in the Administration and Finance department and developing and implementing all relevant communication and training plans.

      RESPONSIBILITIES

      Project Management and Leadership

      • Develop project plans including detailed steps for implementation, process definition, user roll out, training, and communications
      • Work with units within the Administration and Finance department to determine priorities, evaluate business needs, and drive project completion
      • Facilitate the definition of project scope, goals, and deliverables
      • Manage project schedule to ensure project is on time, in scope, and within budget
      • Manage project budgets and resource allocations
      • Identify risks, troubleshoot project issues and recommend effective, business oriented, and strategic solutions
      • Communicate with stakeholders about project status, issues, deadlines, and changes
      • Manage project close out steps and post-mortems
      • Participate in Project Management Working Group meetings to build out project management functions and skills across the organization
      • Serve as a thought partner with the Director of Special Projects to develop a deployment and activation strategy for project management through the department.

      Process Improvement

      • With the Director of Special Projects, identify process improvement opportunities within the Administration and Finance Department
      • Make recommendations for process improvement projects and track open project opportunities
      • Map existing processes and assess for gaps and opportunities for efficiency
      • Leverage post-mortem notes into ongoing iteration of project management strategy and approach

      Training and Communications

      • Define training objectives and curriculum for new projects and systems
      • Develop training strategy and draft presentations
      • Define and implement communication strategies for new projects and systems
      • Ensure complete program and project ownership is transferred at project close

      In addition to:

      • Engage in special projects and other duties as assigned

      EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

      • Proven track records of successful system and process implementations in complex environments
      • Excellent organizational skills with an ability to multi task, reprioritize, and quickly identify project risks and issues
      • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to compose, edit, and proof correspondence and documents
      • Comfortable with ambiguity and able to make the ambiguous clear
      • Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of an organization
      • Experience with process improvement analysis
      • Ability to represent the organization and communicate professionally with ACLU staff and other colleagues, maintaining tact, diplomacy, and confidentiality
      • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, and foster a team-focused environment that encourages collaboration and peer support

      PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

      • Experience with technical systems and implementation projects a plus
      • Experience in a large complex nonprofit organization desirable
      • Minimum of three to five years related experience

      COMPENSATION

      The ACLU values equity, transparency, and clarity in pay. Consistent with the ACLU’s compensation philosophy, there is a set salary for this role. The annual salary for this position is $96,711 (Level H), reflective of a position based in New York, NY, where our National offices are headquartered. This salary will be subject to a locality adjustment (according to a specific city and state), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
