      Responsibilities

      Tasks

      • Interview clients, prepare case histories and assess problems
      • Interview patients
      • Record observations
      • Use standard psychological tests for assessment
      • Write progress reports
      • Prepare a treatment plan for each patient
      • Provide education to clients regarding health promotion and injury prevention, management and treatment
      • Provide therapy
      • Counsel individuals and groups to achieve more effective personal, social and vocational development and adjustment
      • Implement treatment plans
      • Perform administrative tasks
      • Analyze the patient during the treatments
      • Apply psychological theory and principles regarding behaviour and mental processes
      • Maintain accurate records
      • Plan intervention programs
      • Follow up results of counselling programs and clients' adjustment
      • Provide consultation services to government and other organizations
      • Administer standard psychological tests for assessment
      • Conduct vocational testing and psychometric assessment
      • Help clients manage physical illness and disorders

      Credentials

      Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses

      • Membership with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association
      • Membership in a provincial or territorial psychological association
      • Accreditation or registration with the appropriate national, provincial or territorial professional association
      • Certification with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association
