      This position performs specialized duties in support of the Sheriff's Department's public relations functions.
      • Assists in coordinating and establishing community events for the Sheriff's Office, the Commissioner's Court, and other county offices, including holiday toy drives, law enforcement career recognition, dances, and softball tournaments.
      • Prepares and distributes new releases; arranges and coordinates press conferences.
      • Develops and delivers law-enforcement awareness presentations to the public, to local schools, and to other community groups.
      • Attends and represents the office at community events.
      • Generates reports, lists, and other information, including statistical reports.
      • Photographs events and programs.
      • Perform any other duties as assigned.

      Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
      • Knowledge of county and departmental policies and procedures.
      • Knowledge of public relations principles and practices.
      • Knowledge of open records laws.
      • Knowledge of photography.
      • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
      • Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.
      • Skill in the preparation of clear and precise administrative reports.
      • Skill in oral and written communication.
      • Ability to communicate orally and in writing in the English language and orally in the Spanish language.
      • Must have a high school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
      • Must have at least one ( 1 ) year of relevant experience.
      Complexity/Scope of Work
      • The work consists of related specialized duties. Frequent interruptions contribute to the complexity of the position.
      • The purpose of this position is to coordinate the department’s public relations functions. Success in this position keeps the public informed of department programs and services.

      • Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, and poles.
      • Moving oneself in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments, including tight and confined spaces.
      • Adjusting or moving objects up to 20 pounds in all directions.

      • Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
      • Assessing the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
      • Driving a County vehicle or a personal vehicle for County business.
      • Working in low temperatures.

      • Working in outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind.
      • Working in noisy environments.
      • Working in hazardous conditions.
      • Working in poor ventilation.
      • Working in small and/or enclosed spaces.
      • Working in adverse environmental conditions is expected.
      • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
      • Light work that includes carrying objects up to 20 pounds.
      • Medium work that includes carrying objects up to 50 pounds.
      • Heavy work that includes carrying objects up to 100 pounds or more.

      Constantly
      • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
      • Moving to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
      • Communicating with others to exchange information.
      • Repeating motions that may include the use of wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

      Other Requirements/Information
      • Must possess a valid and current driver’s license.
      • The Webb County Drug and Alcohol Policy applies to this position. Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing, a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check, and a criminal background check are required.
      • This position is not covered under Civil Service; however, all other Webb County policies apply.
