Positions require a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study or equivalent related field experience performing work with research, scientific or clinical research protocols. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
B.S. degree in a Crop Science, Soil Science, Biology, Agronomy, Integrated Plant Science, or other similar appropriate field.
Knowledge and experience of plant breeding, genetics, and plant biology.
Knowledge of crop science, greenhouse plant production, and agronomic research in field plot research trials.
Demonstrated ability to use electronic data collection tools and to prepare data for further summary.
Demonstrated ability to coordinate and facilitate work activities in a timely and efficient manner.
Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and navigate Microsoft Office software.
Must possess, or be able to obtain within six months of hire, a Washington State Public Operator’s Pesticide License.
Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver’s license and meet requirements in accordance with SPPM 7.10 and departmental driving standards.
Must possess, or be able to obtain at time of hire, first-aid certification and Workers’ Protection Safety certification.
B.S. in a related field.
Demonstrated ability to detect plant response to environmental and disease stressors.
Knowledge of methods to organize and maintain seed stocks for planting and storage.
Experience working with cereal-based cropping systems.
Experience working in greenhouse research or plant production systems.
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
Knowledge of statistical analysis methods.

The Opportunity:
As the Research Intern in the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences, you will be responsible for conducting field, greenhouse, and laboratory research to support the Wheat Genetics and Breeding project. The primary focus will be to assist with germplasm enhancement and cultivar development efforts for club wheat. This position will work with the supervisor and other team members to develop new wheat germplasm with enhanced disease resistance, improved agronomic characteristics, and enhanced quality for food processing and human health. The Intern will assist with leading undergraduate employees to support essential activities and to maintain equipment and supplies, while facilitating efficient operations.
Additional Information:
This is a full-time (100% FTE), temporary position. This position is overtime eligible.
Temporary End Date: This is a temporary position expected to end on March 31st, 2027. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.
Monthly Salary: $3,379.14 - $4,862.67 | Commensurate with experience and qualifications
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.
