      Are you looking to spend your summer outdoors, while contributing to the upkeep and beautification of Cemetery parkland areas? Join our team of Labourers!

      The City of Edmonton manages 7 municipal cemeteries, which feature peaceful pathways, heritage monuments, commemorative markers and stunning seasonal flora and fauna. These cemeteries is part of the River Valley and Horticultural Facilities Section.

      What will you do?

      • Maintain grass cutting with various machinery.
      • Operate ride-on mowers.
      • Operate small power equipment such as: push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, and small rototillers.
      • Use tools such as shovels, rakes, and small hand tools.
      • Plant and maintain annual flowers and shrubs, and manage vegetation.
      • Move and transport materials and equipment, possibly with the use of a trailer.
      • General facility servicing, sanitation, and monument restoration.
      • May be required to assist with interment services when needed.
      • Load and unload materials from trucks.
      • Respond to public inquiries.
      • Assist co-workers and perform other related duties as required.
      • Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent. High School Diploma is preferred.

      Assets:

      • Experience working at a cemetery, public park or landscaping environment.
      • Experience and/or certification or working knowledge of various equipment, and hand tools including z-trak style ride-on mowers, trimmers, skid steers, two-ton trucks, and cement mixers.
      • Previous customer service experience in a field operations setting.
      • Current Intermediate First Aid, CPR, and AED Certificates.

      Skills required for success:

      • Ability to work independently and perform manual labour for extended periods of time under various weather conditions and in a safe manner.
      • Ability to understand and perform verbal and written instructions.

      Conditions of Employment:

      • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position.
      • Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is a requirement for this position.

      Successful candidates may be eligible for recall in the 2027 season

      Up to 19 temporary full-time positions for up to 6 months with a possibility of extension for up to 11 months

      Note: Individuals unable to work the entire 2026 season may be considered for the Relief Labourer I position at a lower salary grade. Relief Labourers may work up to a maximum of 18 weeks in duration between April 15, 2026 and September 15, 2026.

      Hours of Work: 40 hours per week. Providing coverage Monday - Friday. Primary Schedule 6:30am -2:30pm / 8:00-4:00. Schedule and shifts may change to support operational needs.

      Salary:

      • Labourer I: $24.416 - $33.470 (Hourly)
      • Relief Labourer I: $23.628 - $26.375 (Hourly)
