      Position Overview

      The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire a Security Officer for the Mabley Developmental Center located in Dixon, Illinois to perform fire safety and protection services. Conducts rounds of inspection, checks for fire, safety, and traffic hazards. Checks building and grounds for unauthorized individuals, breeches of security and unsafe conditions. Assists facility staff with management of unruly individuals. Interviews witnesses regarding complaints and submits reports to investigator. Transports individuals to community hospital or other locations off grounds. Travels in performance of job duties. Testifies in court.

      Job Responsibilities

      1. Performs fire safety and protection services at the Mabley Developmental Center.
      2. Assists facility staff with management of unruly individuals.
      3. Interviews witnesses regarding complaints and submits reports to investigator.
      4. Enforces vehicle speed, parking regulations and other traffic controls at the facility.
      5. Dispatches state owned cars in the absence of information division staff.
      6. Manages the facility Employee ID Badge System.
      7. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

      Minimum Qualifications

      1. Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of high school.
      • Qualifying state employees in the Upward Mobility Program shall have the stated requirements of this classification waived by successful completion of specific proficiency tests and training programs.

      Preferred Qualifications

      1. Two (2) years of experience working with security requirements and regulations for a public or private organization.
      2. Two (2) years of experience working with emergency response procedures including fire safety and controls for a public or private organization.
      3. Two (2) years of experience in the use of security enforcement practices and techniques.
      4. Two (2) years of experience providing initial responses to security breaches and safety hazards.
      5. Two (2) years of experience communicating effectively both orally and in writing.
      6. One (1) year of basic proficiency utilizing Microsoft Office with basic computer skills.

      Conditions of Employment

      1. Requires the ability to climb stairs, chase runaways and physically restrain and control individuals as necessary to prevent injury to individual or others.
      2. Requires the ability to acquire and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate.
      3. Requires the ability to work after business hours, weekends, and holidays.
      4. Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
      5. Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties.
      6. Requires an appropriate valid driver’s license.
      7. Requires the ability to work in a 24 hour “on-call” capacity.
      8. Requires the ability to become OIG rule 50.3 certified within 90 days of employment.
      9. Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
      10. Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
