      Overview

      The Salvation Army’s Cambridge Corps., is hiring a Shelter Staff and offers excellent benefit package to eligible employees including:

      Location: 402 Massachusetts Ave., Cambridge, MA

      Hours/week: 40 hours per week

      Exemption: Non-exempt

      Pay Range: $15.30 - $21.42 per hour

      *starting pay varies depending on experience and qualifications*

      Provide on-site monitoring of guest activities in the shelter

      Duties & Responsibilities:

      Maintain a Safe and Secure Environment

    • Screens guest upon arrival and assess their ability to function within shelter guidelines.
    • Orient new guests to shelter guidelines.
    • Monitor all activities within the shelter facility ensuring that all guests adhere to establish rules.
    • Respond appropriately to needs and requests of shelter guests - Resolve conflicts.
    • Encourage, support and motivate guests, in order to foster cooperative participation within the shelter community.
    • Maintain log of events to relay pertinent information to shelter staff.
    • Field all phone inquiries and make appropriate referrals when necessary.
    • Maintain clean and orderly environment

    • Implement established procedures for keeping the kitchen, common and sleeping areas clean by supporting volunteer and guest efforts.
    • Monitor use of laundry and distribution of towels and bedding.
    • Assist in preparing, serving and clean-up of meals, as needed supervising guest participation.
    • Maintain inventory of shelter supplies and relay needs to the Program Director.
    • Participate in weekly staff meetings.

      Perform other duties within the scope of the position

      QUALIFICATIONS

      Education Requirements:

      Work Experience:

      Experience in community / residential living preferred

      Other Qualifications:

      Interest and ability to work with homeless persons and to develop skills necessary for good job performance

      Good interpersonal skills.
