      Pay Schedule I, Grade 19, Regular Schedule: 40 hours per week.

      A vacancy exists in the Department of Public Works, Bureau of Solid Waste.

      A list of eligible applicants will be established based on the examination as outlined below.

      Under general supervision, performs specialized clerical work in support of a maintenance shop.


      Examples of Essential Duties
      • Keeps, updates, and maintains the facility office and personnel records including time sheets, payroll, and attendance.
      • Updates and maintains records of materials, supplies, and equipment used by the facility. Prepares and compiles reports of material and equipment usage and job costs.
      • Keeps records of operation and maintenance costs for the facility vehicles and equipment. Maintains inventory of equipment parts and schedules maintenance and repair of equipment.
      • Prepares and processes requisitions for materials and supplies. Maintains petty cash fund and makes purchases as needed.
      • Receives, logs, and responds to telephone inquiries, complaints, and requests for service.
      • Operates office machinery such as mimeograph machines, photocopiers, fax machines, and calculators.
      • Monitors alarm systems and dispatch crews to respond to calls for service and emergencies
      Examples of Essential Duties
      Performs occasional light typing or word processing, and codes, enters, and retrieves information using data entry devices. Operates small yard equipment to load, unload, or move materials and supplies. Performs other related duties as assigned.

      Possession of a high school diploma or an appropriate high school equivalency

      PLUS

      One year of general clerical experience.

      (Additional experience as described in the essential duties may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education. Additional education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.)

      Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Entry Level):
      Knowledge of office procedures and filing systems.

      Skill in operation of office machinery as listed in essential duties.

      Ability to communicate orally. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and documents. Ability to answer routine inquiries and to properly direct visitors, mail, or telephone calls. Ability to maintain files. Ability to follow County and Department rules and regulations. Ability to learn automated office systems. Ability to follow directions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to concentrate on tasks in a distracting environment. Ability to operate yard equipment.

      Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Full Performance):
      Knowledge of County rules and departmental regulations and procedures.

      Ability to process information according to established guidelines. Ability to operate automated office systems. Ability to effectively deal with the public.

      EXAMINATION PROCEDURE
      Applicants will be qualified based on an evaluation of their training and experience, as stated on their application, which includes answers to the supplemental questions. Applicants must state the dates and duties of past and present experience clearly and completely for evaluation purposes.

      Physical and Environmental Conditions: The work among positions in this class varies, but most often involves frequent walking and standing, and some lifting and carrying of objects of moderate to heavy weight. Some duties involve exposure to adverse weather conditions.
