      Job summary

      An exciting opportunity has arisen to be part of the Simulation Faculty, delivering Simulation Based Education to both Undergraduate and Postgraduate staff to facilitate change within the organisation and improve patient safety. The Simulation Academy is based in the state of the art simulation centre. The simulation centre was built in 2014 and consists of a 2 bedded ward area which can be converted to an operating theatre, control room, debrief room and a range of simulation manikins. There are state of the art video debriefing technologies and the ability to deliver in situ simulation with video debriefing. The centre is involved in a multitude of simulation based education (SBE) activities which the successful applicant would be involved in:

      The post is suitable for an FY3 trainee with some experience of acute medical specialties. There is a clinical component to the post which consists of participating in a 1 in 8 on call rota encompassing nights, weekends and public holidays with prospective cover providing medical cover to an Intensive Care Unit with 3 areas and an additional Medical High Dependency Unit when required. These 4 areas contain a maximum of 9, 6, 7 and 8 beds respectively. There will be 15 Level 3 equivalent patients occupying these beds. This will involve twice daily ward rounds with the Intensive Care Consultant and working with parent teams for the other patients on the units.

      Main duties of the job

      • They would be expected to operate the simulation manikins with assistance and training if required.
      • The simulation fellow would be expected to update pre existing and design new simulation scenarios using a pre existing scenario template
      • The simulation fellow would be expected to play a significant role in the delivery of the mandated FY1, FY2 and IMT and MTI simulation programme in addition to other simulation programmes undertaken within the Trust.
      • The simulation fellow would be expected to play a significant role in the delivery of undergraduate simulation based education.
      • The clinical duties of the post are to provide medical support to the Critical Care Unit.
      • 1 in 8 on call rota
      • The successful applicant would be expected to ensure that their clinical practice is up to date and undertake a programme of continual professional development.
