- Works with Product Management to understand the challenges that customers and end users face in their day-to-day work and partner with them to design viable solutions.
- Recommends viable solutions to processes, technology, and interfaces that improve the effectiveness of the team and reduce technical debt.
- Foresees capacity requirements for component usage and identifies limitations.
- Provides input into story sizing, backlog grooming, and release planning.
- Contributes to product solution and designs to address critical issues and complex problems supporting our Search API and the microservices based architecture.
- Builds software applications across multiple platforms in response to the needs of stakeholders.
- Understands technical architecture and writes software and automated tests that are aligned with agreed upon standards.
- Performs trouble-shooting efforts and investigations when necessary.
- Provides ongoing support, monitoring, and maintenance of deployed products.
- Works with team leads, managers, and technical architects to define and enhance the team's technology roadmap.
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, (preferably Computer Science). The right candidate could also have a different combination, such as 4 years’ experience in a related field.
- 1+ years in developing software which runs on the JVM, with a strong preference for Java. Scala is an additional plus.
- Knowledge of how to design and optimize access of relational databases such as PostgreSQL or My SQL.
- Familiarity with cloud native software which runs on and integrates in the Cloud with a preference for AWS technologies such as ECS, EKS, SQS, and RDS.
- Use of distributed version control software such as Git.
- Experience working in an Agile team environment.
- Creation of containerized solutions which can be run with Docker.
- Development of software which interacts with messaging systems such as ActiveMQ, Kinesis, Kafka, etc.
- Creation and Maintenance of APIs using RESTful techniques.
- Experience in creating new infrastructure with tools like Terraform.
- Understanding of automated deployments and release orchestration.
- Working experience in design, development, and implementation of highly scalable, high-volume software systems and components, client-facing web applications, and major Internet-oriented applications and systems.
- Understanding of automated deployments and release orchestration.
- Understanding of Microservices architecture and design concepts.
- An understanding of deployment methodologies like Blue/Green, Canary, etc.
- Familiarity with various Cloud and other monitoring tools (CloudWatch, New Relic, Splunk).

The Software Engineer I writes and maintains code within cloud-based applications and systems to implement capabilities and features, improve performance and maintainability, while reducing technical debt in alignment with product and technology roadmaps. The Software Engineer I plays a role in Agile planning, providing development ideas and solution, and system monitoring and support.
