St. George’s University invites applicants for a full-time faculty position as a Medical Illustrator & Animator in the Department of Anatomical Sciences in the School of Medicine.
Job description
The Center for BioMedical Visualization at St. George’s University is seeking a full-time Medical Illustrator and Animator: 3D Focus to join our team on the beautiful island of Grenada in the Caribbean. The Department of Anatomical Sciences, which the Center for BioMedical Visualization is a part of, is dedicated to education, research, and faculty that publish and present regularly.
SGU has been the largest provider of doctors into first-year US residencies for the last 10 years, and our team’s primary mission is to support the education of the students enrolled in the School of Medicine. We create illustrations, animations, 3D models, and other supportive and engaging visual content to enhance the student learning experience. We also give supportive instruction in the anatomy wet lab and perform dissections. The position is at the faculty rank of Instructor Level 1 in the Department of Anatomical Sciences.

Your work will be diverse and in a variety of delivery methods and will have a direct impact on student learning.
Essential FunctionsAs part of the Center for BioMedical Visualization, you will support its mission to deliver medical illustrations and animations to the School of Medicine using a range of technical skills by creating:
• Digital and printed 3D models
• 3D animations
• Raster and vector illustrations for publications, lectures, and other supportive learning materialsQualifications
• MS/MA/MSMI/MFA degree or equivalent graduate degree in Medical or Scientific illustration or other similar field of study in the sciences and arts.
• Certified Medical Illustration (CMI) distinction. Applicants without their CMI will be considered with the understanding that the certification be completed within 2 years of hire date (written exam taken within 1 year of hire date).
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Ambitious and engaged recent graduates considered; At least 1 year of professional experience desired
• Ability to process and distill down large and complex amounts of educational course content into cohesive and accurate learning materials.
• A visual portfolio that demonstrates strong creative skills in a variety of techniques including 3D modeling, 3D animation, and illustration (showing strong skills in traditional illustration as well as digital illustration)
• A high degree of proficiency with the Adobe Creative Cloud (specifically Photoshop and Illustrator) as well as with Microsoft Office Suite (specifically PowerPoint).
• A high degree of proficiency with 3D modeling in ZBrush and/or Cinema 4D.
• A high degree of proficiency with 3D animation in Cinema4D (preferred) or Maya/Blender, to include storyboarding, sound design (sound effects, voice over) and editing in Adobe Audition and Premiere.
• Excellent graphic design skills with some experience in InDesign.
• Interactivity and basic 2D animation skills in After Effects are a plus.
• A working understanding of biological sciences and human anatomy.
• Ability to work independently, but also with a team.
• Ability to communicate effectively with collaborators during project development, offer innovative ideas, work efficiently and meet project deadlines.
• Bring new ideas and a high level of creativity to continue to improve the visual content we provide to faculty and students.
• Teach in the anatomy wet lab to graduate students (and undergraduate students as needed), as well as dissect (dissection experience is a plus).
• An interest in AR/VR technologies and 3D scanning.
