Job summary
To be able to carry out and analyse communication assessments and develop intervention packages for the client group & carry a clinical caseload of children with complex communication needs in mainstream schools.
To help deliver training and support, alongside the clinical lead for the mainstream school service, speech and language therapy to support universal and targeted work for children, to ensure that their communication needs are met so they can learn, have access to the curriculum and thrive in their educational settings.
To liaise with communication champions in schools to help them remove barriers to learning and provide strategies, adaptations to the curriculum and delivery of interventions to children with SLCN.
To participate in regular Mainstream Complex Needs team meetings and clinical supervision, including providing clinical supervision to the rest of the SLT team working with patients accessing service within the children's speech and language therapy team.
To promote high quality client-centred care ensuring clients are treated with dignity, equity and respect
Main duties of the job
To undertake appropriate assessments in order to determine a childs/young persons speech, language and communication needs then plan, implement and evaluate care, determining goals and outcomes for SEN children/young people with speech, language and communication needs.
To work clinically with clients presenting with a wide range of communication needs initiating and promoting excellence in clinical practice acting as a role model to junior staff.
To support the use of AAC with client group
To support the dysphagia team at a non-qualified level through observation and basic information gathering
To be aware of & contribute to Risk Management
To contribute to Clinical Governance initiatives
To maintain a culture which recognises and works in partnership with clients and carers, involving them in all decisions relating to care delivery.
To work with the Local Authority, private, third and voluntary services, ensuring effective timely communication between all agencies & to ensure all interventions and goal plans are complied with.
To liaise effectively with colleagues, other agencies, clients and their carers to ensure an efficient system of communication. Be able to vary how information is communicated dependent on the recipients, this may include difficult or sensitive information. To attend & participate in regular team meetings.
To demonstrate and maintain own knowledge and awareness of recognising and responding appropriately to safeguarding.
