Duties: Responsible for building and maintaining relationships with U.S. Corporates operating in Africa within the Energy, Agriculture, Healthcare and Diversified sectors. Serve as a bridge between U.S. Corporates, African business opportunities and Absa’s local in-country teams. Provide insights on the Energy, Agriculture, Healthcare and Diversified sectors within the African context to U.S. Corporates to develop business opportunities for our African franchises. Support U.S. Corporates with troubleshooting and/or provide support for their banking needs on the ground in Africa by facilitating conversations with our local franchise or specialized product teams. Support and arrange franchise roadshows and trips to the U.S. to connect with U.S. Corporates doing business in Africa – both existing relationships and origination opportunities. Cultivate and maintain relationships with corporate and institutional clients, understanding their financial needs, goals and challenges. Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, offering personalized financial solutions and advisory services. Drive expansion of the Absa Group presence in local markets, offering clients guidance and collaborate with presence country teams to executing deals, contributing to the bank’s overall success. Provide tailored, sector-specific solutions, advisory services and insights to clients through industry knowledge, financial acumen and interpersonal skills. Conduct in-depth market analysis, industry research and competitor analysis to identify opportunities and threats in the local market. Keep abreast of economic and regulatory developments impacting clients’ businesses. Identify and pursue new business opportunities to expand the bank’s client portfolio and revenue streams. Work with product specialists to create and deliver innovative financial products and services. Through the Bank’s presence country bankers, assess the creditworthiness of clients and work with the Bank’s risk management team to structure credit facilities, ensuring compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements. Collaborate with compliance officers to address any regulatory concerns or issues.
Requirements: Must have a Bachelor’s Degree (3- or 4- year degree accepted) in Finance, Economics, Commerce, Business Administration or a related field and seven (7) years of experience in the position offered or as a Business Development Manager, Sector Head, Business Manager or a related position in the corporate and investment banking sector. Full term of required experience must include: Formulating corporate and investment banking strategies for key sectors and clients, involving specific knowledge of African market dynamics and regulations; Building trusted relationships with senior clients and/or internal stakeholders (across the organizational geographical footprint) to deliver positive commercial outcomes in Africa; and Developing and coordinating key thought leadership for internal stakeholders and clients on African market dynamics and specialized sectors, including energy and oil & gas. Three (3) years of required experience must include: Providing banking coverage of the Africa continent, specializing in the energy and oil & gas sectors; Executing corporate and investment banking transactions on behalf of U.S.-based operations; Managing client relationships and mitigating client risk for both the bank and the client; Originating new business through cold calling and existing relationships; Cross-selling existing Corporate & Investment Banking products to clients in fit-for-purpose solutions; and Successfully banking mega-projects in Africa, utilizing deep knowledge of project finance, trade finance, foreign exchange and cash management services.
Both domestic and international travel required 35% of the time. May work remotely up to 2 days per week. Salary is $300,000/year; 40 hrs./wk.
