      Job Description

      About the Role

      The Part Time Keyholder/Sales Assistant provides sales support and customer service by greeting and assisting guests, finding and suggesting merchandise, cashiering and packaging purchases, and helping maintain sales floor inventory and appearance. Working with the Manager or Supervisor on Duty, the PT Keyholder will be called on to perform opening/closing activities which include supervising the opening/closing of the registers, securing the cash deposits, preparing sales floor for opening and/or directing staff in sales floor recovery activities at end of day. S/He/They are to be fluent on the POS system in order to perform managerial functions, assist cashiers and do troubleshooting if necessary. The PT Keyholder sets an example of excellent customer service and is able to manage customer expectations in a positive way. S/He/They communicate with the Manager or Supervisor on Duty about customer, staff, facility or operational concerns. S/He/They are expected to stay current on product lines, merchandising, and inventory to better assist customers and the sales staff team.

      S/he/they will demonstrate a background of working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, geographic and socioeconomic backgrounds, using a welcoming, inclusive, and accessible approach.

      This is a part-time position, scheduled for 22.5 hours per week.

      Essential Duties

      • Proactively greet customers and offer courteous assistance

      • Must have a high level of accuracy and efficiency operating the Point-of-Sale system.

      • Responsible for cash handling, balancing registers and securing the Store at opening/closing

      • Helps coordinate end of day sales floor recovery and/or pre-opening activities

      • Must be capable of acting as Manager on Duty in the absence of the Retail Manager, Assistant Manager or Sales Floor Supervisor

      • Utilize Resources for checking merchandise inventory, pricing, and vendor information

      • Assist in loss prevention by remaining aware of customer activity, reporting missing or damaged merchandise and conducting inventory counts as required.

      • May perform other related duties as assigned

      Candidate Requirements and Experience

      Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

      • Excellent customer service. Friendly approachable, proactively engages with guests.

      • High integrity and dependability dealing with cash, merchandise and store security

      • Able to work efficiently and accurately, remaining tactful and courteous even in times of high customer volume.

      • Good problem solving skills and ability to multitask

      • Must be able to work weekends, some evenings, some holidays

      • Bending, reaching and lifting items of various weight and size

      Preferred:

      • Previous cash handling and retail sales experience

      • Working knowledge of literature, history, art, botanicals and tea culture is helpful

      Working Conditions

      • Extensive face to face customer interaction in busy retail environment

      • May involve long periods of standing, walking as well as some lifting and bending

      • Occasionally working outdoors
