      JOB SUMMARY

      You assist the supervisor or designate in performing the following advanced level engineering functions as required, by:

      • Conducting general construction site office duties
      • Conducting engineering fieldwork and field, construction site and structural inspections, including conducting visual surveys, collecting data, taking photographs
      • Monitoring and interpreting process data and conducting trend analyses
      • Conducting project scheduling, progress tracking and developing project documentation
      • Conducting public information sessions and presentations and developing communications documents as required
      • May be responsible for assisting in coordinating portions of smaller contracts

      EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

      Post-secondary Student - completion of third year (or beyond) college or university in mechanical, chemical, environmental or electrical engineering, architectural or civil/structural engineering program with a strong computer applications background

      Two years or more of related experience is required

      Experience in Engineering environment is an asset.

      CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES

      Valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated

      KNOWLEDGE

      • Knowledge of project management principles and phases/life cycles of projects, related systems applications and data management tools
      • Knowledge of aspects of the construction project management and administration process
      • Sound knowledge of engineering theories, techniques, and procedures or higher mathematics
      • Advanced level competency in writing and testing computer programs
      • Advanced level working knowledge of a variety of computer software including Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access and FoxPro, MapInfo, ITX, Oracle, ArcView, AutoCAD, MicroStation 95, data communication protocols, graphics programs, statistical analysis programs, Aperture, SPAN, and IMA7, etc. Students must supply own CSA-approved, green patch safety work boots.

      Desirable Qualifications:

      • Emergency First Aid, CPR, Health and Safety Training
      • WHMIS training
      • Confined Space Competent Worker training.

      COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

      • Ability to read engineering plans and specifications, and reports
      • Ability to read or prepare engineering plans, specifications and reports, designs and/or technical drawings
      • Ability to perform complex (not preset) calculations regarding, for example, with respect to sewers, watermains and/or road grades
      • Works with sensitive process and analytical instruments
      • Ability to work in an office set in a technical work environment
      • Ability communicate effectively both orally and in writing, including participating in meetings, presentations, and interacting with the public
      • Ability to operate plotter, engineering copier, etc.
      • Ability to follow instructions and work with minimal supervision
      • Ability and willingness to work on construction sites
      • Ability to operate cars and small trucks
      • Ability to conduct engineering fieldwork and drafting.
      • Ability to operate power hand tools.
      • Ability to follow instructions and work with minimal supervision
      • Ability to recognize process problems to prevent the need for costly repairs
      • Ability to work with sensitive process and analytical instruments
      • Attention to detail
      • Strong analytical skills and sound judgment
      • Strong communication skills, including tact, patience and assertiveness
      • Ability to prioritize and work independently
      • Willingness to enter data for long periods of time
      • Ability to interact with a variety of people including the general public
      • Organized, thorough Willingness to work outside, on construction sites and to walk long distances is desirable

      • Language Requirement: Various language requirements, locations may require English only, French only OR Bilingual competencies. Some positions require English oral, reading, and writing. Some positions required French oral, reading and writing.
      • Driver’s License Requirement: A valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated
