      The City of Edmonton is seeking a strategic and experienced leader for the role of Supervisor, Field Operations Central. This crucial leadership position is at the heart of maintaining the city's mobility network and cleanliness in the Southeast District. As the Supervisor, you will lead a large, diverse team of up to 100 staff and manage a significant annual budget (approximately $20M) to ensure effective delivery of essential services. Your responsibilities will encompass the full spectrum of field operations, including overseeing critical winter snow and ice control operations, as well as managing summer reactive sanitation efforts like litter management, illegal dumping, and street sweeping.       What will you do?

      • Supervise a diverse work group, exercising independent decision-making over personnel, finances, and operations
      • Manage human resources functions, including recruitment, coaching, performance development, conflict resolution, and disciplinary actions
      • Lead, establish, and exemplify the desired work group culture, ensuring alignment with City Operations' Vision, Mission, and Commitments
      • Actively participate in the development of operational strategies for the Unit, aligning with Corporate, Departmental, Branch, and Section strategies
      • Ensure team compliance with section planning, reporting, and monitoring requirements, providing timely and accurate reports
      • Establish and monitor effective performance measurement, taking timely corrective actions to ensure efficient service delivery and quality assurance
      • Manage financial resources, including determining budget requirements, monitoring and managing costs, and allocating a proportion of the District SNIC budget (approximately $37M annually)
      • Provide quarterly program financial projections and deliver monthly performance reporting, including explanations for financial variance
      • Support city-wide roadway district operations as a rotating Mobility Infrastructure Services Standby Contact, available for after-hours emergencies
      • Education in Management, Commerce, Science, Planning, Engineering, or a related discipline. Other equivalencies may be considered
      • Progressively responsible experience in a Roadways Maintenance and Operations environment, with leadership experience in a large, complex, unionized organization
      • Demonstrated knowledge in operations management with experience overseeing service delivery

      Assets:

      • Experience working with multiple disciplines, large seasonal operations, and staff change over
      • PMP certification
      • Certification or coursework/training in financial management, public works administration or change management

      Skills required for success:

      • Demonstrated Leadership and Supervisory Skills: Proven ability to lead, supervise a large, diverse, unionized workforce, manage conflict resolution, and handle all Human Resources functions (recruitment, coaching, performance development, and management)
      • Planning and Organizational Acumen: Strong planning and organizational skills essential for managing service delivery, prioritizing tasks, and interpreting technical drawings
      • Effective Communication and Collaboration: Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to build relationships, collaborate, and manage external contractors
      • Operational and Safety Expertise: Extensive knowledge of operational best practices, OH&S legislation, ENVISO, and WHMIS, coupled with the willingness to delegate and empower staff

      Conditions of employment & work environment:

      • Up to: 1 permanent full-time position
      • Hours of work: 36.9 hours per week, Monday - Friday
      • Salary: $108,838.80 - $136,046.09 (Annually)
      • This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite
      • This position is eligible for the EDO program (Earned Day Off)
      • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license (or provincial equivalent)
      • Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit
      • The role may necessitate the use of personal transportation to be reimbursed in accordance with the City of Edmonton policy. This may require business auto insurance
