Job Description

- Familiarize and document day-to-day operations of host computers, including performance monitoring, configurations, maintenance, and patching.
- Maintain records of system downtime and equipment inventory.
- Document revisions to host system firmware, OS, and software while assisting with vendor support activities.
- Use hardware management consoles to manage physical components and microcode.
- Document procedures for backup and restoration of operating systems, storage, databases, and applications.
- Develop tools, procedures, and training sessions for Operations, Desktop Support, and Systems Development staff.
- Evaluate and document current POWERVM and VMWARE environments.
- Perform typical system administration tasks, including installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Document and prepare for the Disaster Recovery project scheduled for July–August.
- Knowledge of programming languages, operating systems, and current equipment technologies.
- Familiarity with UNIX/Linux (AIX 7.1, RHEL, Ubuntu) and enterprise backup/recovery procedures.
- Ability to plan, organize, and document complex system designs using Visio and Excel.
- Must be proficient in MS Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Strong ethics, including treating people with respect and upholding organizational values.
- Ability to build rapport and provide "Best in Class" customer support.
- Experience or familiarization with infrastructure/server environments and hardware/software monitoring.
- Emphasis on Visio and project planning skills.
- Must be energetic, self-motivated, and able to follow all safety policies.
- Learned physical skill required for keyboarding and use of peripheral equipment.
- Ability to perform moderate lifting.
- Fast-paced environment with typical computer-related noise and exposure to hardware and video screens.
- Hybrid of in-office and "work at home" requirements in Charlotte, NC.
- Scheduled night and weekend work is required; incumbent is on call for support during off-hours.
Summary:
This role investigates and analyzes the feasibility of system requirements and develops architectural documentation and specifications. The intern identifies methods, solutions, and process improvements to assist system engineering admins in their day-to-day responsibilities.
