Inspects materials and calibrations according to Division and AASHTO standards.
Revises existing specifications and proposes updates to keep the section and division up to date with standards that benefit and enhance public safety and compliance.
Ensures compliance with AASHTO and division quality standards in the areas of coatings, calibration, and traffic materials.
Assists in overseeing contracts, issuing work orders and monitoring construction schedules and contractor payments and job progress on calibrations.
Assists Project Managers related to resource assignments, schedules, scope, communication, quality, and/or procurement.
Monitors consultants' progress and work quality; checks invoices and associated documents; prepares supplemental agreements.
Performs inspections, evaluations and analyses of calibrations and provides technical guidance to the division and districts.
Recommends, to the division and districts, the replacement, rehabilitation or repair of out of calibration equipment.
Reviews designs and tests performed in all areas of calibrations and details of designs prepared by other engineers and technicians.
Writes reports, specifications, and test procedures.
Coordinates with others to develop, monitor and update integrated project plans and schedules to ensure projects are executed in the most efficient manner possible.
Makes presentations and represents TxDOT.
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Serves as a primary help desk resource for routine technical and policy issues.
Negotiates fees, explains scope of work and monitors consultant contracts.
Acts in an advisory capacity on administrative, technical, regulatory and engineering aspects of transportation.
Develops and/or reviews engineering related documents, correspondence, reports and remediation plans
May serve as a lead worker and the related tasks
Performs final review, prepares, evaluates and negotiates contracts with consultants for routine and non-routine assignments.
Develops short-term and long-term goals and coordinates planning activities and resources required to meet goals.
- Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
- Licensed Prof Engineer*
Experience with contracts and project management, PEPS, laboratory and engineering operations and relevant safety guidelines.
Experience with APCM, quality monitoring programs, calibrations, and practicing audit-readiness.
PE licensed in areas of Control Systems, Industrial and Systems, and Mechanical.
Experience with MS Planner.

- This job has been identified as physically demanding and will require a pre-employment physical.
- Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions. This is a Safety Impact position and will be subject to random drug testing.

Transportation Engineer I:
Performs transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, transportation materials, quality monitoring, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.
Transportation Engineer II:
Performs complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, transportation materials, quality monitoring, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.
Transportation Engineer III:
Performs advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, transportation materials, quality monitoring, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.Essential Duties:

Education: Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.
Experience: 4 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent).
