      Job Summary

      The Welder at Morton Bahamas Limited is responsible for the welding, fabrication, and maintenance of both fixed and mobile assets within the company’s operations. This includes equipment such as conveyors, pumps, harvesters, heavy machinery, and boats. Key duties include troubleshooting, welding, and fabricating repairs, as well as performing routine and preventive maintenance. The role requires the ability to read mechanical and welding schematics, operate specialized welding tools, and adhere to Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) policies. Work is performed under general supervision following established guidelines.

      Duties and Responsibilities

      • Perform welding and fabrication repairs on fixed and mobile equipment.
      • Conduct routine maintenance on equipment, including wash plants, pump stations, conveyors, harvesters, and trailers.
      • Assist with the installation and repairs of plant machinery and equipment.
      • Maintain and repair mechanical equipment, including cleaning, servicing, overhauling, and calibrating various systems.
      • Follow specific task assignments from the Supervisor.
      • Adhere to established procedures and guidelines while working under general supervision.
      • Perform routine, repetitive tasks as part of daily operations.

      Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities

      • Ability to read and interpret welding, mechanical, and electrical schematics.
      • Proficiency in using specialized welding tools and equipment.
      • Minimum of 5 years of welding experience or a recognized welding certification.
      • Strong written communication skills for completing reports.
      • Knowledge of metal identification and welding in all positions.
      • Valid driver’s license required.
      • Adherence to the company’s Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) standards is mandatory.
      • Completion of a formal apprenticeship program is preferred.
      • A High School Diploma, BTVI, NTA, or equivalent certification in welding or a related field is preferred.

      Work Environment

      This position involves both indoor and outdoor work with exposure to hazardous conditions, including extreme heat, loud noise, and contact with fuels and oils (with potential skin exposure and inhalation of fumes). Regular use of personal protective equipment (PPE), such as steel-toe boots, coveralls, safety glasses, hard hats, gloves, and earplugs, is required. The role may also involve lifting heavy parts or tools, as well as climbing, bending, and working in confined spaces.
