      General Summary:

      A Youth Instructor is responsible for delivering specific Youth Programs (YP) course curriculum, while connecting with their youth participants. They will provide instruction to a wide variety of age and skill ranges and may also have opportunities for Private Instruction. Alongside instruction, this position will evaluate and encourage their participants to move throughout a series of youth climbing course offerings. This position serves as a liaison between youth climbers & their parents/guardians and the Youth Programs (YP) leadership team, in close coordination with the Front Desk staff.


      Core Functions:

      • Provide instruction to groups of youth participants on Edgeworks Youth Programs curriculum in an engaging , fun and safe way. Ensure the participants are equipped with the skills necessary to advance into the next level!
      • Exemplify outstanding customer service by being available for brief parent/guardian questions and/or conversations.
      • Communicate clearly and efficiently with YP team members, other department staff, parents/guardians, and YP leadership.
      • Learn to use an array of available climbing equipment to provide engaging and safe climbing experiences.

      Principal Activities:

      YOUTH INSTRUCTION

      • Ensure that participants understand the different gym rules for during and outside of class time.
      • Deliver specific program curriculum in an engaging and appropriate manner for the youth participants in the class. Encourage the participants to have fun!
      • Manage gear needs for class: preparing supplies before class, deciding on curriculum for the day and cleaning up afterwards (all YP supplies are returned to the proper places).
      • Attend YP training on a variety of course offerings to develop confidence in instruction abilities. Seek out training opportunities to advance in YP levels.
      • Instruct youth participants in top rope belay curriculum.

      CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE

      • Greet participants with a welcoming attitude, help with shoes and/or harness, and answer parent/ guardian questions.
      • Be familiar with participants in each class and be able to communicate their progress (strengths, weaknesses, and needs) throughout the course session.
      • Have general knowledge of Edgeworks memberships, and products to direct customers to the right person and/or place to find further information.

      Qualifications:

      • Have an Edgeworks top rope belay certification (can obtain on the job).
      • Experience maintaining relationships with customers/parents/clients and collaborating with team members.
      • Positive, welcoming, and self-motivated. Comfortable engaging with diverse populations of youth participants.
      • Experience communicating clearly, providing guidance, and feedback to youth in group settings.
      • Ability to individually manage (small to medium) groups of youth participants, ages 7-17.

      Preferred: ages 18+.

      With directly related experience: ages 16+.
