      Position Summary

      Under general supervision, an employee in this class performs responsible administrative and clerical support work within the Section 8 Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) Program. Work includes preparing correspondence, maintaining files and records, preparing contract documents, and coordinating the work of clerical staff. Performance of the duties requires excellent clerical skills, sound judgment, and the ability to act independently. Supervision is exercised over subordinate clerical staff.

      All activities must support the Housing Authority of Baltimore City (“HABC” or “Authority”) mission, strategic goals, and objectives.


      Essential Duties and Responsibilities

      The position duties and responsibilities listed below describe the general nature and scope of work. Other responsibilities, duties, and skills may be required and assigned, as needed.

      • Provides administrative support; work includes typing, reading, editing, processing information, and typing correspondence to contractors, legal counsel, consultants, etc.
      • Schedules meetings: answers telephone inquiries; types a variety of letters, forms, memos, and other forms of correspondence; creates, maintains, and updates various spreadsheets.
      • Answers telephone inquiries from the staff, outside organizations, residents, and the general public; directs and expedites all calls and/or complaints to the appropriate parties.
      • Attends meetings as necessary; may compose meeting minutes and type agenda
      • Maintains complex filing systems for correspondence and related materials.
      • Plans, organizes, and maintains the daily routine in the office.
      • Responsible for the correction, verification, sorting, and distribution of files
      • Performs other duties as assigned.


      Minimum Education, Training, and/or Experience

      High School Diploma and 30 credit hours of college coursework preferred with 2 years of related experience. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.


      Special Requirements

      • Possession of a valid Maryland driver's license.
      • Must be able to be covered under the Authority's fidelity bond.
      • Must be able to be covered under the Authority's vehicle insurance policy.


      Other Requirements:

      • Availability to work some evenings and weekends as needed.
      • Successful completion of a prescreening investigation, including verification of employment history and education credentials.
      • A 6-month probationary period applies to this full-time permanent position.
