What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Represent the Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) in child welfare cases, including dependency and termination of parental rights
- Advise and represent DCYF in childcare, foster care, and group care licensing cases
- Evaluate evidence and review relevant petitions and documents for legal sufficiency
- Communicate and collaborate with social workers, agency employees, and other attorneys
- Manage a mixed caseload and travel regionally within Washington State for court appearances
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school or completion of the WSBA's Rule 6 Law Clerk Program
- Licensed to practice law in Washington State or actively pursuing admission
- Ability to manage a large caseload of 60 or more cases concurrently
- Strong communication skills to interact with client agency representatives and colleagues
- Demonstrated capability to exercise independent judgment and maintain an organized practice
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Previous experience in public law practice or representation of government agencies
- Familiarity with the Indian Child Welfare Act and Washington Indian Child Welfare Act
- Experience handling contested matters and presenting evidence in court
- Demonstrated commitment to public service and community involvement
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing work demands and case types
