      The Trade and Industry Development Division (TID), part of the Ministry of Jobs, Economic Development and Innovation, facilitates trade promotion, investment attraction, industry development, and supports initiatives to increase export capacity in all regions of the province. TID works collaboratively with key stakeholders, industry, and all levels of government to build an inclusive, sustainable, and innovative economy. The division capitalizes on these strategic partnerships by establishing integrated trade, investment, and industry development policy and programs to help B.C. increase exports, solidify international alliances, attract foreign direct investment, and eliminate protectionist measures.

      The Trade Policy, Analytics and Marketing Branch leads the planning, development, negotiation, implementation, and management of British Columbia’s internal (domestic) and international trade agreements, policies and priorities leading to more open and expanded market access for B.C.’s exportable products and services. The branch advocates for and represents the province’s interests at inter-provincial and federal-provincial meetings on internal and international trade negotiations. The branch has responsibility for the province’s international marketing strategy, which promotes British Columbia to the world as destination of choice for trade and investment, and for the provision of information, intelligence and analysis that supports government’s trade and investment operations and activities.

      The Manager, Trade Policy assists in the development of trade priorities, supports free trade agreement negotiations and the implementation of agreements including FTA promotion, provides support on trade disputes, provides advice on a range of domestic and international trade, investment, and labour mobility agreements, and identifies trade barriers in other jurisdictions for B.C. workers, businesses, and investors.

      Job Requirements:

      • University degree and a minimum of 2 years of recent, related experience in the following:

        • Experience in trade and economic development OR trade policy analysis and development.

        • Experience conducting complex research and analysis of trade issues and synthesizing the results in a concise manner.

        • Experience initiating and maintaining collaborative relationships with stakeholders and interest groups.

        • Experience preparing briefing materials, reports, presentations, and materials for a variety of audiences.

      • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

      • Preference may be given to applicants with one or more of the following:

        • Experience conducting basic trade data analyses, quantitative and qualitative.

        • Experience with international trade law, including dispute management.

        • Experience in legislative processes and inter-governmental procedures.

      Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
