What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Interpret complex biological information and prepare data for utilization by other scientists
- Perform tasks to reduce and consolidate output from software and monitor new data from public databases
- Direct and guide DNA, RNA, and protein sequence database searches and computational analysis of resulting data
- Maintain computational infrastructure and control the flow of samples and information for large-scale studies
- Recognize and report problems with the data management process and implement solutions
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Bachelor’s degree required; MS or PhD in bioinformatics, computer science, or life sciences preferred
- 0-2 years of relevant experience
- Familiarity with programming languages such as Perl/Python or Java, C/C++, and statistical programming using R
- Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills
- Ability to effectively interact with all levels of staff and external contacts
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Experience with web development and database querying through SQL
- Familiarity with principles of experimental design and modern data analysis paradigms
