      Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled clinical or counselling psychologist to join the Macmillan Clinical Psychology Service in the multidisciplinary Cancer Care and Haematology Unit (CCHU) in Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust (BHT). The service provides high quality psychological care for adults affected by cancer and experiencing significant psychological distress.

You will be in a team with three clinical psychologists and will liaise closely and work with two other clinical psychologists in our community cancer project. This project is developing the provision of psychological support/interventions for Buckinghamshire residents diagnosed with cancer and living with and beyond cancer. The project involves colleagues from primary care, Buckinghamshire Talking Therapies and third sector organisations.

The service is going through an exciting time and there will be opportunities for developing individual and group work, increasing collaborations with the MDT in CCHU and service development.

      Main duties of the job

You will be part of a team providing a range of evidence based psychological therapies (individual, couple and group). Interventions include helping individuals prepare for complex treatments and associated decision-making, enhance their ability to cope with cancer related fatigue, managing cancer related distress and fear of recurrence, and living well with treatable but not curable cancer.

The role will involve delivering cross-professional supervision and training to support MDT staff working in cancer care and haematology as well as providing placements for trainee clinical psychologists on placement.

A maximum of 5% of the post holder's working week will be focused on working with trust psychology colleagues to increase the reach of psychology across the trust. You will be part of a trust team of 25 psychologists and therapists.

Full or part time hours and requests for flexible working will be considered.

  • About the company

National Health Service (NHS) is the umbrella term for the publicly-funded healthcare systems of the United Kingdom (UK). The founding principles were that services should be comprehensive, universal and free at the point of delivery—a health service based on clinical need, not ability to pay. Each service provides a comprehensive range of health services, free at the point of use for people ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom apart from dental treatment and optical care.
