Position: Cybersecurity Specialist (40 hours per week/12 months) Information Communication Technical Services Department Overview: The Cybersecurity Systems/Network Administrator position is a member of the System Administrator team responsible for effective installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software of CPS technologies. This System Administrator participates in technical research and development to enable continuing growth of the CPS infrastructure. The System Administrator team ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures are up to date. The System Administrator Team will assist Technical Services Manager, ICTS Project Manager, and Chief Information Officer with various technical aspects of district initiatives. These activities include the definition of needs, benefits, and technical strategy; research & development within the project; technical analysis and design; and support of operations staff in executing, testing and rolling-out the solutions. Participation on projects is focused on smoothing the transition of projects from development staff to production staff by performing operations activities within the project. This System Administrator Team is accountable for the following systems: Windows, Apple OS, VMWare Environment, Casper MDM, VEEAM Backup, network switches and other systems that support CPS technology. Responsibilities on these systems include provisioning, operations and support, maintenance and research and development to ensure continual innovation of Cambridge Public School infrastructure. In addition to the team responsibilities the Cybersecurity Systems/Network Administrator will be primarily responsible for cybersecurity related duties listed below. Cybersecurity Duties: Professional Development for CPS Staff CIS Cybersecurity Framework model implementation and certification where possible Vulnerability scanning and working with sysadmin group to patch vulnerabilities Auditing FirewallRules NAT rules Access and SysLog LogsAD Switches Firewall Routers Physical Security of Data Closets Structure our network to ensure our network traffic is secure Responsible for Disaster Recovery planning and implementation Ensure CPS Implements K12 Cybersecurity best practices Stays current on threats to K12 environments and takes proactive measures to protect CPS Recommends new security technologies and strategies Represents CPS with local and national cybersecurity organizations System Administrator Duties: Researching related technical solutions for various project and operational needs. Install new/rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements. Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures. Contribute to and maintain system standards. Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale. Provide technical assistance to various network connectivity issues. Operations and Support: Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups. Provide efficient Active Directory Management (ie. Accounts, Policies, Exporting AD data). Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary. Assist in managing firewall and web filter. Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary. Provide Tier III/other support per request from various constituencies. Investigate and troubleshoot issues. Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with all parties involved. Maintenance: Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure/add new services as necessary. Upgrade and configure system software that supports Cambridge Public Schools infrastructure and applications per project or operational needs. Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures. Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning. Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required. Maintain data center environmental and monitoring equipment. Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's (4-year) degree, with a technical major, such as computer science preferred. Systems Administration/System Engineer certification in Apple and Microsoft preferred. Four to six years system administration experience. Switch, Router, WiFi, and Firewall experience a plus. Excellent interpersonal communication skills and problem solving skills. Working conditions/Physical Effort: Responsibilities sometimes require working evenings and weekends, sometimes with little advance notice. Travel throughout Cambridge may be needed.
