      Lumentum Switzerland AG is a leading design center of ultrafast pico- and femtosecond laser systems featuring excellent performance and long-term opto-mechanical stability. Our products mainly serve commercial applications in micromachining markets.

      We seek an energetic Senior Equipment Design Engineer for our Manufacturing Engineering Development Team, to work in a fast paced, international development environment. The candidate should have strong multi-disciplinary technical and leadership skills in order to drive manufacturing equipment development for volume production.

      Job Responsibilities:

      • Design of high precision manufacturing tools and automated systems from concept to implementation. Work closely with the Product and Process engineers to develop necessary tooling and equipment .
      • Transfer of new equipment and components to our production facility, including documentation. Own the whole product life cycle of the manual tools and automated/robotic manufacturing equipment, and play a key role to take them to the next level.
      • Support installation and troubleshooting of the manual and robotic manufacturing stations.
      • Work within cross-functional international teams and collaborate with development partners and related outside services.

      Success Indicators:

      • Experience in basic electrical & electronics design. Ability to understand schematics, signal handling, data communication and cable design.
      • Hands-on experience in mechanical tooling/equipment design with understanding of general mechanical design practices, in particular design for quality and manufacturability.
      • Good understanding of robotics, industrial automation, pneumatic systems, actuators and sensors.
      • Strong analytical skills, judgment and problem-solving ability.
      • Strong project management skills .
      • Team player with excellent communication skills.
      • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.

      Requirements:

      • BS in Mechanical /Mechatronics/Robotics/Electronics/Electrical Engineering or similar with 5 + years of relevant experience in an industrial development environment.
      • Electrical/electronics troubleshooting skills using standard tools such as multimeters and oscilloscopes.
      • Demonstrated ability in mechanical design with knowledge of materials and manufacturing techniques .
      • Experience with CAD tools for 3D mechanical design, modelling and 2D drawing creation (SolidWorks preferred).
      • Experience with Robotics/Automation/Mechatronics design and hardware/software interface.
      • PDM-PLM experience is a plus (SW PDM-Agile preferred) .
      • International travel (up to 10-15%) .
      • Excellent English verbal/written communication skills. German is a plus .
      • High level of integrity, work ethic, responsiveness and commitment to continuous improvement.
      • Must be eligible to work in Switzerland on a full-time basis.

      Additional Desired Experience:

      • Experience in designing high precision mechanisms . Familiarity with optics and opto-mechanical design is a big plus.
      • Experience in programming and troubleshooting PLCs.
      • Soldering and electrical wiring experience.
      • Programming language skills
      • Manufacturing experience/exposure.
      • Familiarity with modeling and simulation of robotic/automated systems
