      Essential Duties and Responsibilities

      The Forklift Operations Adjunct Instructor will be responsible for providing high-quality instruction and ensuring effective teaching and learning in forklift operations and workplace safety through the Continuing Education Department. This role involves preparing lesson plans and instructional materials, conducting hands-on training, and maintaining accurate records, including attendance and evaluations. The instructor must create a safe and engaging learning environment that emphasizes OSHA standards, fostering student confidence and job readiness through practical training and real-world applications.

      Position Requirements
      Upon employment, candidate must reside in the state of Texas.

      Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
      1. Develop and update course/program curriculum in forklift operations to meet industry and OSHA standards.
      2. Prepare lesson plans, course syllabi, and required course documentation.
      3. Deliver engaging classroom instruction and hands-on training sessions.
      4. Adapt to different teaching styles to accommodate to the student population.
      5. Measure each student’s progress through the use of written exams or performance assessments essential to mastery of unit objectives.
      6. Keep accurate attendance records and submit all required paperwork on time.
      7. Participate in departmental in-service training and professional development as required.
      8. Work a flexible schedule determined by instructional activities and enrollment, which may include morning, evening and/or weekend classes and at multiple training sites, as needed.
      9. Must be able to handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality by following FERPA standards.
      10. Perform other duties assigned by the Director of Continuing Education, Dean of Community Education, Assistant Provost/Strategic and Collaborative Partnerships, Provost/VP of Academic Affairs and/or President

      Required:

      • High School Diploma or Equivalent

      • Three years of professional experience in forklift operations.

      • Current Forklift Operator License from an accredited institution.

      Preferred:

      • Associate Degree
      • At least one year of teaching or training experience with adult learners in forklift operations, warehouse safety, or related fields.

      • Authorized Trainer Certification from an accredited institution in Forklift Operations, General Industry or related field. Additional industry-recognized safety or equipment certifications.


      • Must have the ability to teach the fundamentals of Forklift Operations and administer both writing and driving examinations.
      • Must have extensive knowledge with OSHA Powered industrial trucks and Forklift Training Requirements [29 CFR 1910.178]
      • Must be familiar with OSHA General Industry Regulations (29 CFR 1910 OSHA)
      • Must have a strong understanding of warehouse operations, material handling, workplace safety practices.
      • Must have ethical standards in evaluating student performance and outcomes.
      • Must have computer literacy, including word processing, spreadsheets, and internet applications.
      • Must have effective oral and written communication skills to explain technical concepts clearly.
      • Must have the ability to maintain professional working relationships with staff, students, and external partners.
      • Must have maturity, professionalism, and a commitment to supporting student academic success.
      • Must demonstrate enthusiasm, initiative, and ability to serve as a positive role model.
      • Must be bilingual and proficiency (English/Spanish), preferred.

      Physical Requirements

      While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit.

      The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch.

      The employee must occasionally lift and/or move items weighing up to 50 pounds.

      Work is performed in a standard office environment.
