      Job Description

      Evaluate and perform prostate cancer research using standardized cellular and biochemical techniques, mouse models, and novel experimental approaches. Perform research under limited direction of Lab Director.

      Complexities

      The applicant will develop novel research methods to investigate the role of nuclear receptors and kinases in prostate cancer related diseases, as well as perform routine scientific work, evaluating, selecting and applying standardized and modified scientific procedures and techniques to assignments with clear, specific objectives.

      Duties and Responsibilities

      • Drive ongoing projects and explore new ones by performing experiments and developing assays - 35%
      • Perform standard microorganism and human cell line culture and molecular biology techniques - 20%
      • Analyze data and troubleshoot experiments, both independently and as part of a team - 20%
      • Participate in training new lab members - 5%
      • Provide written and oral status reports to the Principal Investigator - 5%
      • Contribute to journal articles and figures as requested - 5%
      • Participate in lab meetings, including presentation of work - 5%
      • Perform related duties as required - 5%


      Required Skills, Experience and Knowledge

      Candidate must have a B.S./B.A. in Biology, Zoology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Animal Science or related field and at least two years' experience working in a prostate cancer research laboratory, including experience with gene editing technologies (CRISPR-Cas editing, cell culture based assays and metabolism-related studies.

      Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.

      The candidate will be required to participate in the Occupational Health Program. The candidate will be required to attend, participate, and pass (where required) the University of Washington's training courses in Bloodborne Pathogens, Chemical Hazards, and additional courses as required for successful completion of job duties. Responsibilities are task oriented therefore some weekend and evening work will be required. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

      Desirable Skills, Experience and Knowledge

      Five or more years of experience in gene editing technologies and molecular cloning in a prostate cancer research lab. Extensive experience in mouse models for prostate cancer, microscopy and image analysis, metabolism-related studies, flow cytometry, and biochemical techniques.

      Conditions of Employment

      This position will work under limited supervision to complete assigned tasks/projects demonstrating an ability to work independently. Attention to detail is a critical requirement. Overall direction will be supplied by the PI in routine meetings. The employee will be responsible for following these general guidelines and for adjusting these directions as the need arises. The employee will also be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day performance of students who help complete routine duties and for assuring that they follow all safety regulations.

      The prostate cancer research lab is a fragrance- and cigarette smoke-free area. Smokers are not eligible for this position.

      Shift Information: MONDAY-FRIDAY 8 hours per day. This position requires flexibility in the working hours, including extension into the evening when processing of specimens' mandates, and on occasion requires working outside of the standard work week
