Do you thrive on performing in a fast paced environment where your actions will directly impact a billion dollar business with global reach? Do you want to lead initiatives that will have a significant impact to Amazon’s customer experience and bottom line?
Who we are and What we do
Amazon’s affiliate marketing program, Amazon Associates, spans a large number of websites and blogs worldwide that create compelling original content to help customers make informed purchase decisions for new products and programs (e.g., Prime, Amazon Video, etc.) on Amazon. We run this multi-billion dollar, worldwide business by leveraging the technology and scientific base of Amazon, while maintaining an end-to-end ownership for providing content building tools, attribution tracking, payments, rich insights and recommendations to customers at scale.
We are looking for a talented Senior Software Development Engineer to build, scale and operate intelligent payment economics solutions to deliver impact, and drive growth of the Associates Program worldwide. The Creator Economics team is an enabler for Amazon Associates’ rapid growth and offers a singular solution to manage all of the affiliate marketing budgets, promotions and payments in real-time while being transparent and audit-able from the ground-up.
Why It Matters and Why You Will Love It
Amazon and Associates Program are growing at an incredible rate. To keep up with that growth we must continually innovate to define and build different ways to compensate and reward our creators. To do that we need to rearchitect and scale our systems with new products, processes, economic models to test different compensation/payment strategies while growing existing associates in the program. You’ll be recognized as a technical leader of this space and you will use big data, and analytical techniques to design and implement scalable solutions for business problems. You'll manipulate and process TB-sized data, supporting real-time access and orchestration across multiple systems. You'll build cutting-edge creator-level simulations, at-scale and in real-time, using a variety of statistical tools (ML/econometrics/causal inference). Engineers in Amazon Associates team work across technologies, and deliver Internet scale solutions that focus on high throughput, low latency, high stability and load tolerance. We not only build a lot of new products from scratch to help drive growth but also passionately maintain our existing.
Scope of Role
As a Senior Software Development Engineer, you will be expected to lead cross-team development efforts to provide the technical vision and strategy for the future of incentives and compensation for Amazon Associates worldwide, balancing short and long-term technology investments. You will work closely with economists to build and run causal models based on data from heterogeneous associates and Amazon customers, and simulate pricing changes to identify the policy that incentivizes associates to provide the most meaningful content to Amazon customers. Your will create service engines that leverage data insights, and automate key compensation processes using latest technologies. You will work on projects that require innovative and creative thinking, deep technical problem solving, and mentor other engineers, improving their skills and ability to get things done. You will contribute to the long-term software development strategy for the team, both in designing and building the most critical components, and leading the work of other engineers. You’ll have ownership, not just responsibility; and you’ll contribute to all aspects of the software lifecycle: design, experimentation, implementation and testing. The ideal candidate for our team is a thinker and a doer: someone who loves sophisticated algorithms and mathematical precision, but at the same time enjoys implementing real systems, and is motivated by the prospect of spectacular business returns.
This role will have a profound impact on millions of associates across the world. If you have an entrepreneurial spirit, know how to deliver, are deeply technical, highly innovative, and long for the opportunity to build pioneering solutions to challenging problems, this role is for you.
This job is also open to individuals working from NYC and Miami, FL metropolitan areas.

Key challenges that you'll face:

- You will lead the design, analysis, and interpretation of experiments that shape decision-making around rates for Associates. You’ll drive innovation by developing new experimentation methodologies, statistical techniques, and causal-inference approaches that could sharpen our product decision-making process.
- You'll need to coach/mentor engineers and provide leadership on complex technical issues, design tradeoffs, and feature and schedule prioritization.
About the team
Why join us?:
- You'll be part of a team that is at the heart of one of the most successful automated affiliate marketing program on the planet.
- You'll be working in an entrepreneurial set up, and expected to balance technology decisions with business value created.
- You'll be working at the intersection of science and engineering to simulate and predict efficient payment decisions (by helping science team run experiments that allow for speed and same day availability for example), saving hundreds of millions of dollars using cutting edge science and technology on the way.
- You'll closely collaborate with some of the brightest software engineers, scientists, and economists, in order to solve complex marketing problems and implement systems to tackle these challenges at scale (millions of simulation events per day), and an evolving need for faster and more scalable applications.
- You'll closely interface and do design reviews with PEs.
