This position is responsible for facilitating the efficient and timely movement of patients throughout the Medical Center, based on direction from the Support Services Representative dispatch team. This includes lifting, moving, repositioning, and transferring patients in beds, as well as patient ambulation. The Lead provides day-to-day leadership to the Patient Transporters in completion of their job duties.
REQUIREMENTS
1. High school diploma or equivalent is required.
2. Ability to communicate and follow verbal and written instructions is required.
3. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider CPR card is required.
4. Valid California Driver's License with a good driving record is required.
5. Ability to operate a van-type vehicle in local traffic is required.
6. Learning proper lifting and transferring techniques when moving patients, using gurneys, wheelchairs and patient beds, lifting and transferring equipment, and operating communication equipment is required.
7. EMT or other healthcare related experience is preferred.
8. Ability to work well under time constraints and apply common sense, understanding and good decision making in carrying out responsibilities is required.
ROLE-SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Supervise and coordinate staff assignments to ensure efficient and high-quality service. Complete employee scheduling as assigned.
2. Efficiently execute established policies and procedures.
3. Assist the manager and/or supervisor in employee training, hiring, coaching, counseling, performance reviews, and motivation as requested.
4. Promote teamwork among the staff.
5. Safely perform and/or assist with inpatient lifts, transfers, moves, positioning, and ambulation in coordination with Patient Care Service Team for patients requiring moderate to total assistance. Safely perform van transfers.
6. Transport patients and related customers and equipment to various nursing, treatment, and diagnostic areas throughout the Medical Center in a safe and efficient manner.
7. Verify patient identification before assisting patient.
8. Communicate with Nursing for their assessment of each patient's needs before each lift, move, or ambulation: (1) type of lift, move, position or gait to be performed, (2) condition of and physical disability of the patient (including weight-bearing information, precautions, and other special conditions), and (3) determination of whether a RN or Nursing Assistant should be present.
9. Coordinate availability of necessary equipment for use in the lift, move, or ambulation.
10. Observe, report, and document questionable patient conditions to the RN on duty.
11. Provide patient and family education regarding transfer techniques to be utilized in the post-hospital setting.
12. Respond to requests in a timely manner and make rounds of designated stations on a daily basis.
13. Maintain and enhance team service through team building with Nursing and other departments. Identify opportunities to improve quality and efficiency of services at all times.
14. Provide emergency assistance, when necessary, until proper staff can be notified and assistance arrives.
15. Comply with National Patient Safety Goals.
16. Respond to SAMC Codes as instructed.
17. Assist in training new employees.
18. Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide assistance appropriate to the age of the patients served within the unit.
19. Comply with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation, asbestos, and other hazardous substances. Follow protocol for storage and sanitation of equipment.
20. Perform other duties as assigned to fulfill departmental administrative and operational needs to include, but not limited to, answering phones, data and order entry, dispatching, and filing.
Pay Rang: $22.07- $30.91
