      Dispatches calls for emergency and non-emergency situations for the City. Provides information to police and fire units, connects callers with City services, and files and organizes warrants as needed.
      ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

      The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

      • Sets priorities among incoming events and dispatches the police to necessary locations using both radios and computers.
      • Maintains radio contact to ensure accurate status of the exact location of equipment and personnel.
      • Receives and transmits telephone and radio emergency calls, as well as non-emergency calls, complaints, and inquiries from the public.
      • Performs related work as required.

      Required Education and Experience
      • U.S. Citizen
      • High School Diploma or G.E.D.

      Required Licenses and Certifications:
      • Valid Texas Identification card or Government Issued card is required at the time of job offer and hire. Must have reliable form of transportation to and from work site and is expected to arrive at work site on a timely basis.

      Licenses and Certifications that must be obtained after employment. Continued employment is contingent on successfully obtaining required certification(s) and/or license(s) within the specified period of time indicated above from time of hire.

      1. 40 Hour Basic Telecommunicator Certification must be obtained within 6 months of employment.
      2. 24 hour TCIC/TLETS full access with CCH certificate must be obtained within 6 months of employment.
      3. 4 Hour TTY or TDD Certification must be obtained within 6 months of employment.
      4. First Aid Standard Certification must be obtained within 6 months of employment.
      5. Adult, Child, & Infant CPR Certification must be obtained within 6 months of employment.
      6. Cardiac Emergency Communications Certification must be obtained within 6 months of employment.
      7. TCOLE (Texas Commission on Law Enforcement) Telecommunicator License must be obtained within 6 months of employment.


      As part of the minimum requirements for all positions with the City of Laredo, a thorough background check and certified school transcripts will be required from all applicants who are offered employment.

      Effective February 24, 1997, all selected applicants are required to undergo a drug and alcohol test prior to employment.

      Effective January 7, 2008, all persons in safety-sensitive functions/positions, as per City of Laredo Drug and Alcohol Policy definition, shall be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
