      What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
      - Review and analyze discharged patient medical records for accurate coding and data abstraction
      - Assign ICD-9-CM Codes and ensure compliance with established coding principles and guidelines
      - Communicate with staff and physicians regarding coding discrepancies and clarifications
      - Abstract diagnosis and procedure codes into the Hospital computer system according to specified guidelines
      - Conduct quarterly audits and participate in workshops to enhance coding skills

      What is Required (Qualifications):
      - Certification as a CCS (Certified Coding Specialist) or equivalent, with maintenance of certification required
      - Minimum of three years of inpatient coding and/or CPT ambulatory surgery coding experience
      - Proficiency in medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology for accurate coding
      - Ability to maintain a typing speed of at least 40 words per minute with an accuracy rate of 92% or higher
      - Knowledge of state and federal regulatory guidelines for reimbursement

      How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
      - Experience in advanced medical and surgical coding in a large acute care facility
      - Certification as RHIT, RHIA, CCS-P, CPC, or CPC-H
      - Familiarity with various computerized grouper software for DRG and APC assignment
      - Ability to mentor and train other coders
