What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Accurately assign ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes to inpatient medical records based on clinical documentation
- Review and analyze patient charts and medical records to ensure complete and accurate coding
- Utilize EPIC software for coding and documentation review, ensuring all coding processes meet organizational and regulatory standards
- Ensure compliance with all applicable coding regulations and policies
- Assist with coding audits and resolve discrepancies identified during audits
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Associate's degree in Health Information Management or successful completion of a Technical School Coding Training Program
- Completion of advanced coding classes in ICD-10-CM at an accredited college or vocational school
- Minimum of 2-4 years of inpatient coding experience in an acute care facility
- Experience using EPIC electronic health record (EHR) software
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding systems
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) upon hire
- Excellent understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with Clinical Documentation Specialists and other team members
