What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Assist with research and development activities, including reviewing existing techniques and developing computing solutions
- Help develop algorithms and software for various research areas
- Run simulation codes and collaborate with staff involved in research
- Assist in the publication of analysis and present results to the research group
- Participate in project-based research experiences directly with Sandia staff scientists
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Currently enrolled full-time in an accredited undergraduate program, scheduled to graduate in the spring or attending the spring term immediately preceding the internship
- Pursuing a major in science, engineering, or mathematics
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
- Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer
- U.S. citizenship, legal permanent residency, asylees, or refugees in the U.S.
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Majoring in fields such as chemistry, computer science, engineering, mathematics, neuroscience, physics, or statistics
- Experience in software development and programming (C++, C, Fortran, Matlab, Java, Python)
- Knowledge or willingness to learn parallel programming techniques like MPI, OpenMP, and/or threads
- Familiarity with mathematical modeling techniques (e.g., linear and integer programming, statistical modeling, system dynamics modeling)
- Strong communication skills suitable for multi-disciplinary research teams
