What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Review clinical documentation for coding in compliance with CMS regulations
- Assign appropriate CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS codes for various medical services
- Establish and maintain coding procedures and controls for billing activities
- Monitor compliance with federal and state laws regarding coding accuracy
- Serve as a resource for coding leadership and participate in educational sessions
What is Required (Qualifications):
- High School diploma or GED
- Minimum of two years of experience in hospital or professional services coding
- Coding certification from AAPC or AHIMA, such as CPC, RHIA, RHIT, or CCS
- Active membership in AHIMA may be required for some roles
- Must be able to pass an internal coding test
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Completion of an accredited coding program, such as AAPC or AHIMA Coding Boot Camp
- Knowledge of OPPS guidelines and CPT inpatient and outpatient coding guidelines
- Experience using an EMR and familiarity with EPIC and 3M encoder
- Coursework related to anatomy/physiology and medical terminology
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders
