What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Process, monitor, and analyze payroll functions to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations
- Review and process refund requests, ensuring accuracy and completeness
- Serve as the agency's asset management and fleet management officer
- Act as the unit's records coordinator and assist with incoming mail and customer inquiries
- Ensure timely and accurate payroll processing for agency employees
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Three (3) quarter or two (2) semester college courses in accounting, auditing, payroll, or public administration
- Intermediate-level payroll or accounting-related experience, including payroll adjustments and records maintenance
- Basic Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook skills
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual, and reliable attendance
- Experience in payroll/accounting-related work may vary based on the level of the position
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Intermediate experience with Washington state agency accounting procedures
- Knowledge of payroll processes and systems such as PAY1 and HRMS
- Familiarity with interpreting regulations from entities such as the IRS and DRS
- Experience reconciling accounts and preparing payroll reports
- Understanding of retirement plans administered through the Department of Retirement Systems
