Responsibilities
The Sponsored Project Specialist will manage all aspects of federal and foundation sponsored research grants from inception of the budget and proposal submission in pre-award, through the post award process which includes grants management activities, progress reports and prior approval requirements. This position serves as a resource for Mayo staff, maintains networks and communication flow, and represents Mayo to outside entities. The incumbent will utilize leadership qualities, team management, and interpersonal skills to facilitate the grants process while partnering with research colleagues. There is a strong emphasis on professional competencies, knowledge of pre/post award rules and regulations, superior customer service, team performance, manage deadlines and the ability to communicate effectively throughout the entire process. Prior experience with Federal funding agencies (ex. NIH, DOD, NSF), grants administration and systems desired.
Qualifications
A bachelor's degree is required in business, public administration, finance or related major preferred plus 3 years of related experience in research, healthcare, finance, or business. A Master's degree in business, healthcare, finance, or related field can be substituted for one year experience. Demonstrated ability to perform and prepare budget estimates (preferably in a research environment), to understand financial concepts, to conduct accurate mathematical computations, understand previously negotiated agreements, and Mayo institutional policy. Experience with research protocols, contract terms and conditions, expense budgets, medical terminology, and procedure codes is preferred. Individuals must also possess/develop working knowledge of MS software applications, NIH eCommons, and other similar systems. Must be highly organized, able to prioritize and balance multiple projects simultaneously, work independently as well as in a team, and exercise good judgment. Must have excellent interpersonal relations and communication skills to guide Mayo research personnel and external sponsors towards mutually acceptable goals. Must be able to understand complex rules, regulations, and policy and apply them consistently.

Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. $64,813 - $97,302 annually.
