- Successful completion of NHI 130055 Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges
- Successful completion of NHI 130078 Fracture Critical Inspection Techniques for Steel Bridges
- Certified Bridge Inspector per WisDOT Structure Inspection Manual
- Ability to frequently travel on an independent basis such as traveling 3 to 5 days a week to multiple locations in one day
- Ability to work outdoors in conditions of heat, cold, humidity, dust, and to walk over rough terrain.
- Ability to lift and carry objects such as tools or material samples.
- Ability to work outside of normal working hours.
- Ability to work in or near water, including safely working from a boat.
- Experience with administrative activities related to construction equipment and vehicles (duties may include maintaining depreciation schedules, scheduling maintenance, daily safety inspections, equipment setup, reporting, etc.)
- Experience operating construction equipment (construction equipment may include forklift, man lift, scissor lift, snorkel lift, etc.)

The WI Department of Transportation (WisDOT), Division of Transportation System Development (DTSD) is seeking an interested and qualified individual to fill a Structures Inspection Specialist (Transportation Specialist Advanced) for the Bureau of Structures!
The headquarters for this full-time position is home-based. The position requires frequent independent travel.
This position will work remotely as their typical work schedule and will be required to travel extensively throughout the State of Wisconsin. All employees are expected to be headquartered and work within the State of Wisconsin. It is not anticipated that working outside of Wisconsin will be approved.

Position Summary
This position directs and administers the Remote Access Structure Inspection Program. The position is responsible to direct inspections, repairs, preventive structure maintenance, and rehabilitation of major state-maintained bridges statewide, including lift structures. This position conducts routine and in-depth structure inspections; develops preventive maintenance and repair actions; estimates costs and directs structure maintenance, repair, or rehabilitation action by contractors, district personnel, and/or local units of government. As a structure damage investigator, this position performs emergency inspections, develops design repair sketches, develops repair cost budgets, coordinates field repair, and prepares final project report. This position is also responsible for management of major underbridge access equipment operating at heights up to 200 feet in the air, including development of depreciation schedules, inspection schedules, daily safety/maintenance schedules, and daily operation.
This position receives direction from the Bridge Inspection Engineer. Work is performed under the general supervision with authority to approve changes or modifications to structure inspection, repair, maintenance, and rehabilitation procedures on existing major structures.

Salary Information
This position is in schedule-range 14-13 with an annual salary of $68,640 - $91,520, plus excellent benefits. A twelve month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.
Job Details
Travel Requirement
This position requires frequent travel on an independent basis throughout the state, including overnight stays in remote locations.
Work Hour Requirement
This position requires the ability to occasionally work extended hours in excess of 8 hours per day and/or 40 hours per week, including working on Saturday and Sunday.
Commercial Drivers License (CDL)
A valid Wisconsin Commercial Driver License (CDL), Class "B" with endorsements for air brakes is required upon hire. Holders of the CDL are subject to pre-employment and random Drug and Alcohol Testing under Federal Regulations.
Bridge Inspector Special Requirements
Fieldwork Requirement
In this position, fieldwork is required. This fieldwork can include working in all seasons, including adverse weather conditions and working in high volume traffic conditions, bending on a limited basis, and lifting approximately 50 lbs. and carrying this load approximately 50 feet over varying terrain.
Additional Special Requirements
Hired candidates must be able to meet the DOT fleet standards for driving a state vehicle.
