What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Code and abstract outpatient accounts, ensuring a bill hold status of no more than three days post-service or discharge
- Assign ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT codes accurately based on thorough medical record reviews
- Utilize Optum computer-assisted coding to validate and approve code assignments for billing
- Analyze charges for edits and manage accounts for charge reviews and modifier corrections
- Perform daily reviews of coding worklists to prioritize tasks effectively
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Successful completion of an approved coding program
- Entry-level knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT coding
- Certificate of completion of an approved coding program
- Minimum of six months coding experience in an inpatient or outpatient setting preferred
- Ability to work independently as a remote employee and troubleshoot system issues
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Associate's degree in a health-related field or relevant licensure/certification
- Advanced knowledge of outpatient ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT coding
- Scoring a minimum of 80% on a pre-employment coding test
- Certification as an AHIMA Certified Coding Associate (CCA) or AAPC Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
