What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Analyze spatial and statistical data to support fire safety research and resilience science
- Implement test and validation protocols for various research projects and safety initiatives
- Collaborate with software development teams to inform and test risk quantification methods
- Visualize and process mathematical and statistical models related to fire risk
- Present findings and data science products in various venues as necessary
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Bachelor's degree in applied mathematics, statistics, data science, fire science, or a related field plus 8 or more years of directly related work experience; or a Master's degree plus 4 or more years; or a Ph.D. plus 4 or more years of experience
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in developing and processing spatial and temporal data science methods
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and R for data manipulation and model development
- Experience with GIS database structures and management, as well as analysis libraries like Pandas
- Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate with team members
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Familiarity with Amazon Web Services and cloud-based infrastructure for data storage and management
- Experience working with national-scale spatial data sets for data science project development
- Skills in using GitHub for version control and managing collaborative data science projects
- Experience with GIS visualization libraries such as ArcGIS and QGIS
- Ability to contribute to writing research reports and papers
