What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Research, design, and architect new software solutions for optimal tasking of Planet's satellite fleets
- Collaborate with aerospace engineers on complex applied mathematics problems and provide software mentorship
- Contribute to improving operations of existing satellite fleets and enable future missions
- Lead the development of constellation-level automation tools and mentor team members
- Carry out first-principles analysis and operationalize MVP solutions
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, aerospace engineering, physics, or a related technical field
- 6+ years of relevant experience in software development
- Proficiency in C++ and Python programming languages
- Experience with maintaining peer-reviewed code, automated testing, and continuous integration/deployment
- Familiarity with orbital mechanics and space mission operations
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Familiarity with Docker, Jenkins, JIRA, and Linux-based systems
- Experience with orbit determination, high-fidelity propagation, or maneuver automation
- Background in covariance realism or low-thrust mission design
- Knowledge of constellation management principles
