What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Assist various departments with questions, requests, and proof-of-payment inquiries while supporting overall departmental objectives
- Maintain compliance with City policies and procedures, documenting desk procedures for consistency and knowledge sharing
- Collaborate on special projects and perform additional duties to support organizational and departmental goals
- Manage financial system queries and reports, including bank reconciliation processes and exception handling
- Support 1099 processes, including year-end processing, exception handling, and IRS reporting
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Completion of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Business, Accounting, or related field, including twelve (12) semester units in accounting subjects
- For Accountant II: Two (2) years of progressively responsible accounting or auditing experience
- Experience in the maintenance of financial records, systems, or transactions may be considered as a substitution for educational requirements on a year-for-year basis
- Strong knowledge of applicable professional/technical principles and practices, as well as federal and state rules and regulations
- Proficiency in common business computer applications, including MS Outlook, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Access, and MS Excel
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Two (2) or more years of experience in accounting or auditing roles
- Familiarity with Fiscal Management System (FMS) or similar systems, particularly in Accounts Payable and General Ledger modules
- Experience with Simpligov or other process automation platforms
- Demonstrated analytical thinking and problem-solving skills in previous roles
- Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment requiring multi-tasking
