What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Collaborate with NASA project mentors to define AIML problem statements and success metrics
- Develop and evaluate machine learning models tailored to project needs
- Build reproducible data pipelines for data ingestion, cleaning, and feature engineering
- Prototype and deliver proof-of-concept tools for mentor teams
- Document methods, assumptions, and recommendations in clear technical write-ups
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Math, Data Science, Physics, or a related field, or equivalent demonstrated experience
- Demonstrated experience building AIML models and evaluating their performance
- Proficiency with Python and common data/ML tools (e.g., NumPy, pandas, scikit-learn)
- Experience working with real-world datasets, including challenges like messy data and outliers
- Ability to communicate technical content clearly in documentation and presentations
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Experience with time series modeling, NLP, or computer vision techniques
- Familiarity with software engineering practices such as Git workflows and unit testing
- Experience with cloud/HPC environments and MLOps concepts
- Graduate students enrolled in a PhD or Master's program in relevant fields
- Living within a reasonable commuting distance from a NASA center for selected projects
