GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE:
This position is responsible for forecasting, projecting, and managing the entire pool volume of raw products to meet the needs of Value Added Manufacturing and selected commodity Sales businesses while driving cost efficiency. Position is responsible for all inbound freight, product landed cost and raw material management at the facilities. Ensures product managers have sufficient information to keep the business supplied, and senior management has sufficient information to make long term sourcing decisions. Position will support the Ag Department in the procurement and overall cost of inbound fresh produce internationally to meet the sales demand for the Value Added and Fresh Pack businesses of Dole Fresh Vegetables.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS/DUTIES OF THE POSITION:
• Work cooperatively with field managers, planting operations, commodity sales, value added sales, logistics, and value added plant operations to schedule and ensure there are adequate raw supplies to meet the needs of the business both short term and long term.• Maintain VA raw inventory at optimal levels and develop a strategy for raw material life cycle that leads to cost reduction and ensure continuous supply of goods.• Responsible for the keeping the business appraised of any shortfalls or overages in supplies based on the latest inputs from the fields, production plants, or sales, so that the business has adequate time to reach decisions and react to dynamic market or weather conditions.• Responsible for forecasting accuracy and crop estimating to assure seamless product flow and superior operational efficiencies.• Develop and foster positive working relationships with 3rd party growers/suppliers through proactive activities to include routine visits, regular communications, and field support.• Monitor and evaluate crop progress and maturity; work with growers in regard to crop, soil, pests, growing and harvesting management.• Monitor grower activities and performance to support the grower to marketer relationship.• Responsible for the annual year planning process and Product/Crop Assessment process; identify critical issues/opportunities; develop strategic recommendations to management on how to optimize near-term growth.• Contribute to the strategic issues management process; identify and assess strategic issues; lead and/or participate and/or facilitate strategic discussion and where necessary, manage strategic initiatives.• Assess new business opportunities; assess potential impact and formulate strategic recommendations in response to changes in the production environment; participate in various projects as directed.• Research and analyze market data and trends for key commodity markets and make strategic recommendations to senior management on each category on timely purchase of raw materials.• Responsible for primary field research, including customer, distribution, competitor, and market surveys.• Assist the Food Safety Department as needed and support the areas of Food Safety guidelines and compliance to the Company Food Safety Program.• Update supervisors and internal stakeholders on a weekly basis with reports on activities, projects and responsibilities.• Other duties as assignedAbout the company
