What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Extract structured data from scanned or text-based PDFs, focusing on property records and filings
- Develop web scrapers to collect data from public websites and real estate portals
- Create interactive maps, charts, and dashboards for editorial storytelling
- Standardize and reconcile inconsistent records across multiple data sources
- Collaborate with editors and reporters to transform data into compelling narratives and insights
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Strong attention to detail and ability to trace data lineage
- Proficient data literacy in a real estate context, understanding trends and transactions
- Experience with data cleaning and normalization processes
- Ability to perform manual data tasks and reconcile entries
- Familiarity with data visualization tools and techniques
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Previous experience in data journalism or a related field
- Skills in automation and workflow scripting for data tasks
- Knowledge of real estate entities and relevant public records
