      What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
      - Accurately code inpatient conditions and procedures using ICD guidelines
      - Assign MS-DRG or APR-DRG codes for complex inpatient services
      - Identify and report hospital-acquired conditions and present on admission indicators
      - Collaborate with Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists to address documentation concerns
      - Assist in preparing responses to DRG validation requests and third-party inquiries

      What is Required (Qualifications):
      - Minimum educational requirement: AHIMA or AAPC approved Medical Coding Diploma or Health Information Management Degree
      - Minimum of three years of progressive inpatient coding experience in an acute care facility
      - Active credential of Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) through AHIMA; or AAPC at the time of hire
      - Understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and disease processes
      - Ability to work collaboratively with clinical staff

      How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
      - Experience with electronic health record systems
      - Academic or level I or II trauma experience
      - Preferred AAPC credential: Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC)
